Introduction To Brilliant Shots – How To Photograph Jewelry
By: The In-House Studio Jewelers Photography Experts
Hello, and welcome to today’s Studio Jewelers blog post! We will be discussing the very interesting and exciting subject of photographing jewelry! When it comes to snapping shots of your favorite pieces, the best way to photograph jewelry is to stick to the basic guidelines of getting a good shot.
After you’ve chosen the jewelry you want to photograph and you’ve found the best place for the shot, you must adjust your camera’s settings. To optimize photographs, you should [in most cases] raise your exposure levels in order to display the most realistic color in your shot. Most cameras do not capture the true lighting of a shot with the default photo settings. Depending on what kind of shot you want, your exposure will differ – in addition, the shot you want to take might not be the best one for showing what you want to share. A great example of this photography jewelry concept is given in the two photographs below. The shot on the right seems to have been taken in the best setting for the diamonds to be displayed. Nevertheless, it was quite difficult to get good lighting while focusing from directly above the ring. The shot on the left shows our one of our photographers holding a ring for the shot. This is an untraditional approach to get the best lighting for a shot, but in this case the angle and lighting were perfect for our needs. We hope that this quick intro to jewelry photography tips has caught your interest, and will help you take better jewelry photography shots in the future!
